Private Packagist 2025 contributions for the Open Source Pledge

This is now our third year as a member of the Open Source Pledge. Private Packagist subscriptions help fund not only the development of Composer and Packagist.org, but also the open source dependencies we rely on to build and run our commercial product. In 2025, we contributed a total of $30,497 to open source projects and maintainers – that's $4,357 per full-time employee, well above the pledge's minimum of $2,000. Altogether pledge members have paid maintainers over $3.6 million last year.

As in previous years, these numbers don't include the significant time and resources we spend maintaining Composer and Packagist.org. Instead, this reflects what we contribute to sustain the broader ecosystem: the tools and libraries Private Packagist is built on.

Here's how we distributed our support in 2025:

ProjectAmount
PHP Foundation$18,000
Symfony$9,034
PHPStan$1,410
XDebug$1,417
knplabs/php-github-api$318
3v4l.org$318
Total$30,497

We believe that companies who build commercial products on open source have a responsibility to support it financially. If your company uses PHP, consider sponsoring the PHP Foundation. And if you haven't already, ask your company to join the Open Source Pledge!

On a related note, we are currently setting up a sponsorship program for Packagist.org and Composer. The ongoing development and maintenance of this critical PHP infrastructure is a major undertaking, and we're looking for companies to help share the cost. If your company is interested in becoming a sponsor and being part of our launch announcements, please get in touch at contact@packagist.com.
